The mission of R.O.C.K. is to nurture the healthy development of children by listening attentively to their needs and providing opportunities to those who might not otherwise have access.

Our mission is to nurture children’s healthy development by listening to their needs and creating opportunities. Our data-backed model develops healthy social and emotional skills, instills strong academic behaviors, and broadens horizons — giving students the tools to navigate life into adulthood.

For over three decades, our model has been to go where our kids are — their schools. We align with school leaders and fill gaps during the school day, after school, on weekends, and all summer. And R.O.C.K. isn’t just for kids: we support families with resources and workshops too.

We listen, analyze, and respond

We conduct extensive research — surveys, data analysis, and observation — with our community of parents, students, teachers, and partners to understand the real challenges our children face.

That framework of listening and responding strategically means we build internal expertise where we’re strongest and bring in partners where we’re not.

The largest youth-serving organization in Visitacion Valley

We serve TK–12 youth and their families in a community facing real social and economic challenges — as the lead nonprofit partner for all three public schools in Visitacion Valley, and beyond into high school and adulthood.

We believe that if we provide high-quality, structured programs rooted in Social & Emotional Learning (SEL), positive adult role models who are representative of our community, and opportunities to broaden horizons through new activities and experiences, our students will have the tools necessary to navigate life.

Our alumni come back to lead

Nearly a quarter of our leadership team are R.O.C.K. alumni — including three who came up through our programs as kids and now manage our sites. That’s the clearest measure of our long-term impact.
